Why I'm Recruiting

PHOTO Swap for Lee's photo

I started Mini Professors Weymouth because I genuinely believe science should never feel scary or boring for children. I wanted to create something hands on, exciting and full of those little wow moments where children suddenly realise they can ask questions, test ideas and understand the world around them.

What I love about running our after school clubs is that they are completely different to another hour sat at a desk. The children have already done a full day at school, so our clubs need to feel fun, lively and practical, but still full of real learning. One week they might be building, the next they might be mixing, testing, investigating or making a glorious mess.

I love watching the quieter children grow in confidence, the curious ones ask even bigger questions, and the ones who think science isn't for them realise they're actually brilliant at it.

I'm recruiting now because Mini Professors Weymouth is growing, and I want to make sure we can keep giving children the same high quality, hands on experience without losing the warmth, energy and care that makes our sessions special.

Finding the right person matters to me far more than simply filling a role. In my experience, the people who thrive in this role are often ex teachers, HLTAs or TAs: people who loved being in the classroom but not the late nights marking, the endless paperwork or the politics that came with it. You don't need to be a scientist, but you do need to be curious, reliable and happy to get stuck in.

The right person will help children feel confident, included and excited to learn, and that matters hugely to me.

With thanks,

Lee

What it actually looks like

What Does an After School Club Leader Actually Do?

2:45
Arrive at school, say hello to the staff, and get this week's experiment set up.
3:15
The bell goes. Children spill into the room still buzzing from their day, already asking what you're doing today.
3:30
Hands-on experiments, questions, mixing, measuring, a game or two and a bit of magnificent mess. You're leading, encouraging, and watching the wow moments happen right in front of you.
4:30
Pack away, a quick note on how it went, and you're heading home knowing you've made someone's afternoon brilliant.

Plus one paid hour every week set aside for planning and prep.

Meet The Families

"My kids absolutely love Mini Professors! Each time they come home they are absolutely bursting to tell me what they've made and learnt, they love Professor Lee and how much fun learning science can be."

Lisa Hindle, Parent  |  Trustist, 2 January 2026

"We are so pleased that Mini Professors now run a Science Club in our school! Pupils love the engaging and inclusive weekly sessions which are packed full of hands on learning. Lisa and Lee deliver high level science in easy to understand formats and they take the time to get to know the pupils so they can support them and make sure everyone has a good time. The clubs are a perfect demonstration of how learning can be fun! We're very excited that Mini Professors are continuing our club into the next academic year."
